Getting to know Jarrod McKay

Jarrod McKay is the only new inclusion into the Otago Volts' 16 contracts for this season. Having come through the ranks at Central Districts, playing Age-Group and 'A' level cricket, the right-arm fast bowler is an exciting prospect for Otago. Read below, as we get to know Jarrod better through some Q&A!

Q: Thanks for your time, Jarrod. Being our newest member of the Volts squad this season, we thought it would only be right to get to know you a bit better!

A: Thanks for that! I'm really looking forward to being part of the team and what the season will bring.

Q: Where abouts are you from?

A: I'm from Nelson, and have lived there my whole life until now.

Q: What do you do as a Cricketer?

A: I am a right-arm fast Bowler.

Q: Talk to us about your background in Cricket - including any role models you have aspired to emulate?

A: I grew up playing Cricket in the backyard with my Dad and brother, and have never stopped since then. Players I looked up to throughout my playing days were the Nelson Cricketers who had achieved playing First-Class Cricket. They showed me that it was possible to reach my goal of playing at the top level, and also how to go about my work as a Cricketer.

Q: What have been some highlights in your Cricket career thus far?

A: Making my First-Class debut against Northern Districts for Central Districts, and getting my maiden wicket. Winning the Hawke Cup with the Nelson representative side, and now becoming a contracted member of the Otago Volts.

A: I'm looking forward to having access to hands-on coaching from the Volts Coaching Staff, but also just being in an environment where I can learn from experienced players in the group.

Q: What are your personal goals for the upcoming season?

A: To make my debut for the Volts, and strive to have a season where my action is strong, and I am bowling fast.

Q: We know you play some Field Hockey in the winter, what are your other hobbies outside of Cricket?

A: I have played Indoor Cricket for a while now and have always enjoyed playing in the Winter. I also enjoy going fishing in the weekends when I can.

Q: If I wasn't a Cricketer, i'd be..?

A: I am currently studying a Sports & Recreation Degree, so I would likely get into teaching if I wasn't playing Cricket.

Q: Thanks again for your time, Jarrod. We look forward to watching you in the Blue & Gold before long!

A: Awesome, thanks! I look forward to getting out there.
