Sparks Bolster Squad with Double Overseas Signings.

The Sparks have strengthened their playing squad ahead of the upcoming Super Smash season, announcing the signings of two overseas players: Sydney Thunder batter Laura Harris and London Spirit bowler Eva Gray. The Super Smash campaign gets underway on 28 December, with the Sparks opening their season against Canterbury.

With White Ferns Suzie Bates (hamstring) and Eden Carson (elbow) sidelined through injury, the additions of Harris and Gray provide valuable depth and international experience as the Sparks look to build on last season’s runner-up finish following their Grand Final loss to the Wellington Blaze.

Harris brings an exciting, fearless presence to the top order, renowned for her clean ball-striking and ability to apply pressure from the outset. A naturally aggressive batter, she thrives in high-pressure moments and can shift momentum in a matter of overs, making her a proven match-winner in the shorter formats. Her experience will also provide a valuable learning opportunity for the Sparks’ batting group.

Gray adds balance as a dynamic all-round contributor, offering athleticism and competitiveness across all facets of the game. A skillful pace bowler, she relies on accuracy, movement and subtle changes of pace to build pressure and create chances, while her sharp fielding and strong cricketing instincts further enhance her impact.

Both players are expected to feature in the Sparks’ opening fixture against Canterbury in Alexandra, marking a South Island clash to begin the Super Smash season. With experience across multiple elite competitions around the world, Harris and Gray bring a wealth of knowledge that will be invaluable to the squad, particularly for the Sparks’ emerging talent as they push for a title-winning campaign.
