Otago Cricket has today announced the beginning of an exciting new chapter, welcoming Dunedin Kia as its Principal Vehicle Partner. The partnership launches with a refreshed fleet of vehicles proudly carrying Otago Cricket colours and represents a significant milestone in the commercial journey of both organisations.
The agreement brings Otago Cricket into alignment with a globally respected brand, joining organisations such as the Highlanders, Halberg Foundation, Hurricanes, Eden Park and FIFA within Kia’s extensive sporting and community portfolio. The partnership reinforces Kia’s commitment to high-performance sport and meaningful community impact, while positioning Otago Cricket alongside industry-leading organisations.
Otago Cricket Association Chief Executive Mike Coggan said the partnership was highly valued due to the strong alignment between the two organisations.
“Any partnership with a brand like Kia is incredibly valuable, particularly given their strong connection to the Otago community,” Coggan said. “We have a long-standing relationship with the Dunedin Kia team, and our shared values make this a genuine win-win partnership.”
Beyond brand alignment, Coggan highlighted the practical and environmental benefits of the agreement.
“Kia’s vehicle range aligns strongly with our sustainability focus, offering low emissions and fuel efficiency that support both environmental responsibility and cost efficiency. Just as importantly, the relationship is built on familiarity and mutual respect, with both organisations sharing a commitment to caring for and investing in our community.”
The partnership marks the first year of what both parties hope will become a long-term collaboration, delivering value across Otago cricket for years to come.
Dunedin Kia Dealer Principal Matt Smaill said partnering with Otago Cricket was a natural fit for the locally owned business.
“We’re extremely excited to be partnering with Otago Cricket, a professional and well-established organisation with a proud history spanning nearly 150 years,” Smaill said. “We’re looking forward to playing our part in supporting the next 150 years.”
Smaill said Dunedin Kia’s passion for supporting local sport and community made the partnership an easy decision.
“At Dunedin Kia, we love backing our community and our teams. Partnering with Otago Cricket was a no-brainer, and we couldn’t be prouder to be a driving force behind cricket in Otago.”
“What excites us most is seeing local talent develop and represent our region with passion and dedication. We believe this partnership will help enable that, and we’re genuinely pumped for the future.”
Otago Cricket Commercial Manager Warren McSkimming said the partnership was both strategic and authentic, built on a strong existing relationship with Dunedin Kia.
“This is a genuine partnership for Otago Cricket. As a Dunedin-owned business, Dunedin Kia is deeply committed to driving engagement across the wider Otago region and supporting the growth of cricket at all levels,” McSkimming said.
He added that Kia’s growing brand presence creates strong opportunities for Otago Cricket to further connect with communities across the region.
“Kia’s dedication to community aligns perfectly with our goals. This partnership strengthens our ability to engage with supporters, participants and communities throughout Otago.”
The relationship is expected to continue growing over time, bringing positive energy, mutual support and exciting opportunities for both organisations.
Otago Cricket and Dunedin Kia are committed to working together on promotional initiatives, community programmes and match-day activations that celebrate cricket across the region and deepen engagement with fans. With shared values and a clear vision, the partnership signals exciting times ahead for both organisations and the wider Otago cricket community.
