There is a settled look to the 16 names now announced as Otago Volts contracted players for the 2024/25 domestic cricket season.
The 16th and final contract has been offered to, and accepted by Zac Cumming. Cumming (18) is the younger brother of Otago Volts opener Jacob, and son of former Otago Captain and current Otago Sparks Head Coach Craig Cumming. A leg spinning allrounder, Zac represented New Zealand at the ICC U19 World Cup last season and is earmarked for a promising future.
The other newcomer to the Otago roster is experienced middle order batsmen Leo Carter who heads south after forging a credible domestic career with Canterbury. Promising 20-year-old Jamal Todd gains his first full contract, having debuted last season for the Otago Volts.
The squad has a settled look about it with confidence being shown in the players who represented Otago last season, to continue to develop and perform at domestic level. From last season’s contract list, prolific top order bat Hamish Rutherford has retired, and effervescent Jacob Duffy has been offered a NZC central contract.
Ollie White has moved back to Tauranga, having not been offered a new season contract.
GM Performance & Talent Steve Martin stated his excitement and confidence in the squad recently announced.
“Otago has a strong core of young players who have been building experience over the past few seasons. The addition of Leo Carter and Jamal Todd offers the group a combination of excitement, firepower, and in Leo, genuine experience" said Martin.
Volts Head Coach Ashley Noffke knows that he has a great group of players with the capability of building into a very strong and competitive domestic side.
Noffke, who returns from the UK Hundred on August 25th and will assemble the squad on the September 2nd, to begin preseason build up ahead of the late October season commencement.
