Hicks appointed new Pathway & Talent Manager

 Otago Cricket

Former Otago Volt Shawn Hicks has been appointed to the role of Pathways and Talent Manager at Otago Cricket. Shawn takes over from Ramesh Subasinghe who has moved overseas to take up a role with West Indies Cricket.

Hicks played for both the Auckland Aces and the Otago Volts debuting in December 2015 and having his last game in February 2019. His cricket career was cut short due to a series of concussions which he suffered before and during his time in cricket. When he finished his professional cricket career, he went on to complete a degree majoring in accounting and has most latterly been Sports Lead for Sport Otago.

He retired from professional cricket at the age of 23, but has now begun to fashion a career in cricket coaching, and has coached at club with University Grange in Dunedin, 1st XI at John McGlashan College, representative age grade and with the Otago Sparks.

General Manager Performance Steve Martin believes that Hicks will be a great asset to Otago cricket and will be able to build on the excellent work done by Ramesh Subasinghe when he was in the role. Martin said that “Shawn is highly respected amongst his peers and players, he has a passion for the development of players and clear understanding of Otago Cricket and its performance programmes.”

Hicks starts with Otago Cricket on the 4th June.
