Earlier this week, 29-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, Mitch Renwick, indicated he will make himself unavailable for an Otago Volts contract in 2022/23.
“After some thought, I have decided that the time is right to park professional cricket in New Zealand, and explore future career options,” explained Renwick earlier this week.
"I want to thank all the players, staff and supporters of the Volts for making my four years so enjoyable,"
"The quality of the people makes Otago the great region it is, and I leave with fond memories and lasting friendships." Renwick continued.
"It is an exciting time to be a Volts fan, and I look forward to following their progress closely."
Renwick debuted for Otago in the 2018/19 season, following a number of appearances for the Central Stags.
Over the past four seasons with the Volts, Renwick has amassed over 2,300 runs for Otago in seventy-one appearances. He also claimed seventy-four (74) dismissals across all formats.
Renwick enjoyed his best returns against the red ball, where he claimed three centuries & two half-centuries, while averaging 27.8 runs.
This season, Renwick was awarded selection into the NZ XI side that took on Bangladesh.
Otago Cricket CEO, Mike Coggan, spoke highly of Mitch’s time with the Otago Volts.
“Mitch has been a wonderful team man over the past four seasons and has played many memorable innings for Otago. I recall fondly his Plunket Shield hundred in 2019 that oozed class.” said Coggan.
“Mitch has been an integral member of our Volts family and we wish him all the best as he pursues business opportunities outside of cricket.” Coggan concluded.
Mitch is currently in the UK and has played a handful of fixtures for Hampshire’s 2nd XI.
