Following a successful 2021-22 campaign in New Zealand’s domestic competitions, three SBS Bank Otago Sparks have been selected to compete in a world-first, ICC sanctioned competition – The 2022 Fairbreak Invitational.

Held in Dubai in conjunction with Cricket Hong Kong, the Fairbreak Invitational was formed to create opportunities that progress gender equality on a truly global scale, using cricket as their primary vehicle.

The tournament begun on May 1st, with eleven (11) out of a possible nineteen (19) games being played up to this point.

Otago Sparks Suzie Bates & Marina Lamplough have teamed up to represent the ‘The Falcons’, while Katey Martin dons the orange & black of ‘The Tornadoes’.

The six-team tournament is made up of players from all around the world, including Heather Knight, Sophie Devine, Stafanie Taylor, Sune Luus and Bismah Maroof, who all captained their respective countries at the Women’s World Cup earlier this year.

Global stars like Suzie Bates, Laura Wolvaardt, Hayley Matthews, Danni Wyatt, Marizanne Kapp, Shabnim Ismail and Sophie Ecclestone will also take part.

Both the Falcons & Tornadoes have two Pool Play matches remaining before semi-finals and finals. All matches are live streamed on Sky Sport in New Zealand.
