Former Black Caps seamer Mitchell McClenaghan will wear the blue, gold and maroon of Otago after signing with the Volts for the 2020 – 2021 Dream 11 Super Smash season. The vastly experienced McClenaghan has recently completed a 6th year with 2020 IPL champions Mumbai Indians and has arrived in Dunedin ready to assist the Volts towards a title shot.
Head Coach Rob Walter is thrilled to have secured the services of such an experienced and quality seamer for the new season.
“Mitch brings an abundance of T20 experience to our side having successfully played the short format internationally and in the various T20 leagues across the globe. Being a left armer, he brings variation to our attack, and has the armoury in his short form game that we will need as we again push for a playoffs spot”.
McClenaghan, the quickest player to 50 T20 International wickets is excited about being part of the Otago Volts.
"I’ve been part of many ding-dong battles with the Volts over the years and I’m excited about being part of a team that never lies down. I last played in Dunedin in that amazing elimination Super Smash final earlier this year where Otago were unluckily squeezed out of a direct route to the final, so I would love be part of this year’s side that goes a step further. The Volts are a quality side and great bunch of guys and I can’t wait to get involved and see what we can achieve together”. said McClenaghan.
The Otago Volts get their Super Smash campaign under way in Alexandra with two double headers against McClenaghan’s former side the Auckland Aces (28 January), and the Canterbury Kings (29 January).
