Otago Cricket is saddened to acknowledge the passing of former Otago representative Ian Rutherford, who died last week, aged 68.
Rutherford played 82 matches for Otago across First-Class and List A formats during a career spanning 11 seasons. A dependable presence at the top of the order, he scored 3,532 runs for the province, including 14 half-centuries and five centuries. He was also a member of three Plunket Shield-winning sides during his time with Otago.
Rutherford’s character and camaraderie left a lasting impression on teammates and the wider cricket community. His class, both on and off the field, remains a defining part of his legacy.
