Tasman-Jones named Volts Head Coach | Andre Adams assistant

Former Otago selector and A team coach Josh Tasman-Jones has been appointed Head Coach of the Volts – with former Black Cap Andre Adams named as his assistant.

A former Volt himself, Tasman-Jones played seven first-class games and eight Dream11 Super Smash games for Otago, before turning his hand to coaching and selection.Adams, well known as a bowling all-rounder with the BLACKCAPS, has coached in Auckland, and in New South Wales - where he worked with players such as Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins.

Most recently he has just finished a stint with the Bangladesh national side.Gary Stead, who has been acting in an interim coaching capacity, will maintain a presence in and around the group, providing coaching support to the coaches and the players throughout the season.

GM Performance Steve Martin said Otago Cricket was delighted with the appointments and looking forward to Josh and Andre starting their new roles. He said that it was great to have someone of Gary Stead’s calibre being able to support the coaches and the squad. “It’s exciting to have someone who has a strong history with Otago taking the reins and being supported by internationally recognised coaches. With an equally strong squad of players, we are looking forward with real anticipation to the season ahead and what the Volts can achieve” Martin said.

Tasman-Jones said that he was honoured to be leading the Volts. “With the great progress shown last season, we have a strong foundation to build on. I look forward to working with the playing group more closely and am excited to be able to work alongside such a talented and committed bunch of players and support staff. I am confident that we will have a team that the people of our region can be proud to support.”

Tasman-Jones will start with Otago Cricket on the 18th of August, joining the winter programmes currently being managed by Stead, and then leading into the pre-season which starts on the 1st of September, when contracted players will assemble. Adams will arrive in Dunedin on the 31st of August.
