Otago Volts captain Dean Foxcroft has decided to vacate the team's captaincy and focus on his game and his family.
Foxcroft’s informed his fellow teammates prior to the appointment of new Volts Head Coach Ashley Noffke and hopes his decision will enable future success for the team.
Head Coach Ashley Noffke supports Dean decision to focus on his career and family.
“We are very supportive of Dean's decision to step down as captain. Obviously, he is an important part of the team and will still play a strong part in our direction as a team going forward” Noffke said.
“We will always listen to our players to better understand their situation and build the right framework around them to achieve their goals. Foxy has aspirations higher up as a player and the Volts will reap the benefit of his skills on the field.” Noffke added.
Foxcroft was rewarded with the captaincy last season, after a tremendous 2022-23 domestic season which saw him named Domestic Player of the Year and his selection into the BLACKCAPS.
Noffke has indicated that a new captain will be named in due course.
“We won't rush into any decisions on a new captain at this point, I'd like to see the actions and behaviors of our playing group during preseason” Noffke said.
The Volts are currently in pre-season training and a full squad announcement ahead of the new domestic season will be released in late July.
