Subasinghe departs for West Indies Pathways role

 Otago Cricket

Otago Cricket Association Pathways Head Coach/Manager Ramesh (Ram) Subasinghe has resigned from his role to pursue an international opportunity with test playing nation.

Ram has been with Otago Cricket for almost 3 years and in that time, he has had a significant influence on the OCA Pathways talent identification and development programmes.

His work with young aspiring cricketers has seen Otago age-grade teams become more successful at national tournaments and individual players performing to levels that have seen them elevated to Otago senior squads, national age-grade teams and NZ POI programmes.

Ram is a nationally recognised fast bowling coach who has recently been involved with a NZ Development XI as the Head coach and has previously been involved in NZC Pathway programmes as a coaching resource.

The identification and development of talent from all of Otago’s districts has been a particular highlight and success for Ram. The decentralised programmes that he has initiated and supported in each area will be a fitting legacy for someone who has worked tirelessly to produce future Volts.

Otago GM Performance Steve Martin believes that Ram has created a strong programme that will benefit Otago for many years to come.

“His enthusiasm and dedication for the role and for Otago Cricket will be missed” Martin added.

Ram has said that he has thoroughly enjoyed his time in Otago and is looking forward to following the progress of the many young players that he has worked with.

“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity that I have had over the past three years with Otago Cricket. It has been a truly rewarding experience, and I have learned a tremendous amount during my time here. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Otago Cricket, its district associations, New Zealand Cricket, the dedicated coaches, volunteers, and the talented players I have had the privilege to work with. I am humbly proud to witness the emergence of our homegrown talented players from all corners of Otago and Southland and excited about the bright future ahead for Otago Cricket”.

Ram will finish with Otago Cricket on April 30 and start his new role on May 1.
