COMMUNITY AWARDS:

George Clement Morris Match Official of the Year – Dave Cummings

Dave Cummings began his umpiring career in Palmerston North in 1967 then moved to Cromwell, Central Otago in 1970 and played and umpired until he debuted as a First Class umpire in 1973. After standing in 19 FC games, he retired in 1989. Dave started scoring for Otago Country at Hawke Cup level in 2004 and retired at the end of this current season and has scored close to 100 games at that level. He has also scored 16 1st Class games, 12 ODI’s and 15 List A games.

Dave hasn’t just confined himself to officiating but got very involved in cricket admin getting himself on the ‘Shell Committee’ in Alexandra in the mid 70’s (charged with getting Molyneux Park ready for 1st Class cricket and running the games), secretary of Otago Country, part time CEO of Otago Country, Training Officer and Treasurer for the Otago Country Umpires Association. Life Member of Otago Country Cricket. A deserving recipient of the George Clement Morris Match Official of the Year.

SBS Bank VOTY – Francis Parker

Francis Parker has been described as the heartbeat of South Otago cricket for good reason. Francis has been administering the South Otago Premier Competition for the past 5+ years where he has improved the engagement of locals with the competition thanks to his team announcements, match previews, and even a podcast! He took his match reports to the next level this season, publishing match wrap-ups in the Otago Daily Times/

He has also been instrumental in running “Bash for Cash” fundraisers to help raise thousands of dollars for children in need. As well as this Francis also finds time to plays for his beloved Owaka Bandits & South Otago in the Crosbie Morris.

Community Coach – Gihan Fernando

Gihan is the coach that every association wishes they had, he has over the years coached some Year 7/8 teams, U17 and U19 teams, development teams and is now coaching the Hawke cup team. Gihan is always fast to pick up voluntary opportunities travelling afar to coach teams that he doesn't have children in. His passion for coaching is unrivalled and is constantly seen taking time out of his own life to take children for coaching sessions in the Queenstown and greater Otago Country Region. We are lucky to have Gihan as part of our district and hope to work with him for many years to come.

Individual Performance – Mason Gain

204 runs (133 balls) for Otago U17 against Otago Country A. 28 x fours, 11 x sixes.

Contribution to Community Cricket – Lindsay Bartlett

Lindsay represented the Dunedin Umpires and Scorers group on the Dunedin Cricket Management Committee for a great part of the 2000’s. On the DCA committee Lindsay contributed in many ways - he helped review playing conditions and bylaws, often assisting with wordings, and providing practical examples to help drive a change. He often provided key analyst around proposed points systems across the grades. While he was there to represent the interest and thoughts of the Umpires and Scorers he contributed to all discussions, decisions and changes over this time. Lindsay has also umpired community cricket for around 20+ years and over the years has volunteered much of his time to age-group & school tournaments as well as Senior Club Cricket.
