Otago Cricket are delighted to announce the appointment of new Performance Staff. We welcome Strength & Conditioning Specialist, Megan Gibbs and Physiotherapist, Scott Wilson to our Performance & Talent team.

Megan Gibbs is a name familiar to Otago fans, having represented the Otago Sparks over 50 times between 2012 - 2019, more recently being involved as Manager for Otago Sparks during the 2019/20 season. For Gibbs, a love for Cricket and the Otago Sparks were key catalysts in looking for a permanent role within Otago Cricket.

“I grew up with my two brothers spending long days in the backyard playing Cricket, and the journey has never ended 30 years in. I’ve had some amazing opportunities playing Cricket (particularly representing the Otago Sparks), and now I find myself on the other side as a fully immersed support staff member which is pretty cool!” said Gibbs.

Having spent last season as Manager for the Otago Sparks, Gibbs had felt she had more to offer to the wider playing group.

“I have obviously represented Otago before in a playing capacity but felt I could offer value to the Performance Programme as support staff. Last year being involved alongside Craig (Cumming) and the Sparks, I realised this hunch was right. I loved that opportunity; it was a special summer and I'm excited to see how our teams grow into the Summer” Gibbs commented.

Scott Wilson’s love for Otago Sport & Sports Physiotherapy is eventually drew him towards his Physiotherapist role with Otago Cricket.

“I am proud to have grown up in Dunedin, I am passionate about Otago, and I love supporting Otago in all sporting codes. Now I have the opportunity to help our Otago players be in the best condition they can be to represent the Otago/Southland region.” said Wilson.

Wilson begun his journey in Physiotherapy 7-years ago, with his love for cricket starting years previous.

“Cricket has touched my life in a number of ways. From playing at 1st X1 in school, to 'participating' later in life as a struggling middle order 2nd grade batsman. I have worked in a Junior Club and have coached my children’s teams for several years. More recently I have got involved with cricket as a physiotherapist, firstly with club cricket at the Taieri Cricket Club, and then last year assisting Brett Harrop at the Volts.” Wilson commented.

“The Volts role offers a real opportunity for me to be able to throw my full energy, knowledge, and skills into helping our athletes and ultimately the team perform out in the middle.”

Scott Wilson has begun working with players in the Dunedin area, while Megan Gibbs will begin her role on early September.
