The Otago Volts have it all to play for when domestic cricket returns to the four day format for round six of the Plunket Shield this week. The Volts head to Invercargill to take on the Central Stags in a game that is crucial to the team’s chances of challenging for the trophy.
With five games remaining the Volts currently sit in third position, just eight points or one out-right victory from the top of the table. A good result in Invercargill will ensure the Volts are in contention during the final rounds.
Coach Mike Hesson said that “While the team had been disappointed to miss the finals in both the HRV Cup and One Day Competitions the Plunket Shield now presented the team with a chance to do something special this season. In our last few games of the Plunket Shield before Christmas we were starting to play some great cricket and build some momentum so we are looking forward to getting back into the whites and finishing the season with some strong performances”.
Hesson was extremely pleased with the current depth in his squad and commented that there was strong competition for places in the side. BLACKCAP bowler Ian Butler is unavailable for selection, the team is however bolstered by Neil Broom returning from BLACKCAP duty, Aaron Redmond’s recovery from injury continues and he will play his first four day game of the season.
