On March 2 2008 the Otago Volts took on the Auckland Aces in the final of the State Shield. Otago had not won a national title since the 1987-88 season and when the Aces set the Volts 311 to win from their 50 Over’s it looked like the wait would continue.
However that was the cue for Brendon McCullum to take centre stage with one of the most spectacular innings in the history of domestic cricket in New Zealand. Brendon’s 170 runs of just 108 balls included nineteen fours and seven sixes. It is the highest score by any player in New Zealand domestic one day cricket and the fastest century in New Zealand domestic cricket (52 balls).
Brendon was well supported by Greg Todd and Craig Cumming and the Volts reached 311 in just 42 overs for the loss of only 3 wickets .
Sit back and enjoy some incredible batting
